Faso: the Green Brigade. Moved by the objectives to reduce poverty through job creation
(employment of more than 1000 women), improve the image and cleanliness of the
environment (sweeping and cleaning public places and urban streets), and
provide support to vulnerable social groups (employment which in turn allowed
the employed ones to send their children to school).
Camarines Norte,
Philippines: Talisay Rivers for Environmental and Economic Sustainability. An initiative
of the community of Talisay to harness the Talisay River, prevent soil erosion,
and reduce flooding in neighboring communities. This activity is an example of
community, local government, and national government partnership for good
resource management.
Kien Giang Province,
Vietnam: Hatien-Habitats-Handbags. A civil society initiative for the protection and
conservation of the Phu My wetland. The wetland is a source of livelihood of
local people through harvesting natural resources.
Carhuaz City, Peru:
Sustainable Solid Waste Management Programme. Established by
Ciudad Saludable, a local non-government organization (NGO), to improve the
environment in Carhuaz City through the use of strategies such as utilization
of reusable containers, observance of waste collection routes and schedules,
use of compost, and manufacturing through recycling.
